Our terrier cross was a bundle of energy, who would chase a ball all day if I had the strength to keep throwing it. She could jump straight up in the air and look through the porthole window in our back door. In some ways, this made her the ideal dog for us because she was small enough to not be a problem in the house but athletic enough to run and play with the kids or accompany me on a jog.
Cross breeds, I was told by the vet at the first check up, are often very hardy. This proved to be true, with minimal health problems over the 8 years we had the dog. She shed a bit and regular grooming was necessary. In spite of the energy, she would generally remain quiet at night in an enclosed porch area. She was great with the kids and never snapped or growled at anyone.
