I own a Field spaniel, and he's the kindest dog I've ever met. Almost too kind. He's been bit by other dogs without even barking back at them. To people he's always very loving and social, every time you get home he'll be incredibly happy. A lot of people comment on how cute and nice he is, some that aren't even "dog-people".
I think my fathers wife (she's the one who bought him) tried to train him to be a hunting dog but that didn't go so well since he's really hard to learn. The only tricks he can perform is to sit and lay down, and that's after a lot of work from our side.
Summary:
I would recommend a Field Spaniel to people that look for a family dog, because the one I have is really kind and cute. If you're looking for a hunting dog you maybe should consider other breeds.
