We got Toby as a puppy to be a family pet and an upland bird hunter. He was the biggest in the litter and had been nicknamed "Tank" by the breeder because of the huge size of his paws. As a young dog Toby was full of energy but as long as he got plenty of exercise he would sleep well. Before taking him hunting, we would have to run him for a mile or two down the road to tire him out so he wouldn't run too far out of range and scare up all the birds before we got to them. As a family pet he was wonderful. It was just me and my dad at the time but Toby was very gentle and never acted in agression towards a human(even around children he didn't know). In fact he was pretty submissive around new people and used to piddle a little bit when they approached him. He eventually got over this but remained a very sweet personality for a dog breed famous for its hyperactivity. I still have his ashes on my bookshelf and remember him fondly.
