A wonderful friend, but too rambunctious

Cocoa was a wonderful girl, but she was very rambunctious and did not want to stay indoors. These dogs really need a lot of room to run, and we didn't have that for her. She ran outside the front door whenever she had the chance, often running into busy traffic. She would always return home quickly, but one night she ran into traffic and was hit by a car :(

Springer spaniels are very loyal, and very active. They need a lot of running space, because they're sporting dogs. They love to run and fetch things, and should be run at least three times a day. This breed loves being indoors and close to the family when not exercising, but needs a medium- to large-sized yard for exercising.

Our English springer spaniel was terrific with kids, very protective of them. She was very docile when the kids would pull on her tail or ears, never once nipping or snapping.
