The two English Springer Spaniels I've worked with have both been very protective, both of their owners and of their spots at the dinner table. They will hunt if you allow them to, so be careful when taking them on walks if they spot a squirrel/bird/etc. They do not do well around new children because they are so protective. It is recommended that Springer Spaniels are taken to a groomer because they do require a bit more care than most dogs.
