Springer Spaniels are great house pets. They're alert, playful and great around children. They're also easy to train and fairly docile. They have a knack for hunting and will alert you if you have any vermin running about. Though not exactly a guard dog, they make excellent watch dogs with their acute hearing. If a tree falls in the forest, chances are they'll hear it and let you know. These alarms can get annoying at times but can also be life saving. Another con is the amount of shedding that they go through and the amount of grooming that owning one of these dogs entails. Nonetheless they are faithful, loving companions; a little affection goes a long way with them.
