My Springer is now 7 years old and I have loved every minute of having him. He is very energetic and loving.
From the second we bought him home we began to train him and he picked things up extremely quickly. Emotionally he seems to be very unstable, even though he has been bought up in a loving household he cannot handle being left alone and loud noises scare him enough to make him run and hide.
He is completely silent apart from when we ask him to bark - that it literally the only time he will bark at us.

Extremely healthy dog never had a single issue with him and he requires a haircut every couple of months to stop him from molting (mainly for our health).
He is a very loving dog and we have no issues with him being around other people, dogs or children.

I am not sure whether he would be safe around small pets, he regularly chases birds and cats, he caught a cat once and just licked its back so I doubt he could cause any harm.

Other Springer Spaniels may make perfect guard/watch dogs but Dylan wouldn't as he loves everyone and everything and wouldn't speak up ever, however this is not an issue as we did not have a dog for that reason.
