I was only six when we got Sam and it’s been a great thirteen years with him. He is so sweet and is always so protective of those who he loves. If you cry in front of him, he’ll come sniffing to make sure that you are okay before going along with what he was doing. He’s always so energetic and lovable, even as he has begun to slow down with age. Despite his age, he sometimes still runs around like he did when he was a puppy, which is so refreshing to see. He is a great dog with kids and I wouldn’t worry at all if I left him alone with kids.
Although Sam is a great dog, he doesn’t like being left alone which can cause problems. When he was a puppy he used to tear up blinds and garbage when he was left alone, but as he got older he got more used to being left alone. Although now he still whines when his “mom” isn’t home. We also gave up trying to put him in a kennel when he got out of a cage that was supposed to be gorilla proof and he also chewed threw a plastic cage. He is also not very friendly with other dogs. We have another dog, which is a Shih Tzu that he is fine with, but when another dog comes around he growls at them because he is very protective of what is his.
Despite the downfalls of Sam, I wouldn’t trade him for the world. He is so sweet and I’m going to be very sad when he is gone.
