Three years ago I was contacted about a Dogue de Bordeax/Pit Bull mix puppy which needed a new home. The owners had bought the puppy without asking their landlord. Unfortunately, their landlord had a negative opinion on the Pit Bull breed. The minute I met the puppy, I knew she would be part of my family. We named her Prudence and she immediately started to bond with my kids and our other animals. Prudence is very smart and was easy to train. There were no major inappropriate chewing, as a puppy. We did have to work on her jumping on people. She would get so excited when anyone came to visit.
She loves to play and goes through a lot of toys. Prudence will destroy a toy pretty quickly. Her favorite activities are playing fetch, being on your lap, eating, laying on the sofa and cuddling. She has even been part of fostering kittens.
The cons are she needs a lot of attention and love.
Although she did not get as big as her Bordeaux mom, she is very powerful. So I don’t leave her unsupervised with small children; I worry that she knock them down.
She also makes drool puddles, when she begs for a treat.
There is also the issue of people assuming that because she is part Pit Bull she is aggressive. It is frustrating as a part Pit Bull owner to have people make such false statements about the breed.
Prudence is the sweetest and nicest dog you will ever meet.
