Dobermans aren't for everyone. If you're not a serious dog person...don't get one. They demand to be part of the family. Turn them into an ignored backyard dog and you'll create a nightmare. They are loyal, devoted, intelligent, and have to be with their people. I have 3 males and the vet bills are killing me. All of them have serious health issues. I have literally spent $15,000 in the past 2 years on their medical expenses..and don't regret it. They are part of the family. Be prepared for people to have false stereotypes of them. They are only Cujo when their family is threatened. Otherwise they are lap dogs.
