Dobermans are known for their loyalty and trainability. They are ferocious protectors but very sweet to those they know and love. When mistreated they have a tendency to retaliate, and - like all animals - should be treated with respect and care. They need big yards and owners with the same discipline they wish to instil in this breed, because, with guidance, a Doberman will learn very well.
In pairs, if untrained, they tend to become escape artists, breaking out to roam the neighbourhood, howling like wild dogs, and posing a threat to any people or animals of prey they come across.
This isn't a breed you'd buy if you're looking for a dog that doesn't require much effort!
