The Doberman was originally bred for walking alongside tax collectors, to protect them and their cash! The Doberman is strong and intelligent. This large dog has a bad reputation as an aggressive dog, but for the most part they are friendly. They have a fierce, tough look. They have a strong protective instinct.

I have worked quite extensively with breed, and I love them! They are very easy to train in obedience and as a guard dog. They are extremely athletic, and very fast. They have a very strong bite, which is especially apparent during bite training. All the dogs I have worked are quite friendly. Training is a breeze because they are very intelligent.

Overall, they are a healthy breed. They have a bad reputation as being aggressive, but that is usually not the case. I don't recommend this breed for small children, because they can push and nudge children in an attempt to play.
