Dobermans have a reputation for being alert and usually aggressive guard dogs; however this all depends on training and the environment they are brought up in. If this is the kind of behaviour you wish to see in your Doberman I would suggest a strict training programme and to refrain from treating your dog as a family pet. I had no intention of training this type of behaviour into my 3 Doberman puppies and this was a good thing; since they turned out to be dopey, loving, big softy's (yet still loyal and attentive) even at four years old. Dobermans are wonderful dogs to kept as they are loyal and protective but please make sure you are getting one for the right reasons - not just to have an animal reputed to be aggressive; and not to show they love and attention they so desire.
