There are so many positives that come with growing up with a doberman. In films, they are depicted as being quite aggressive and violent dogs. This was not true with Jazz. He was a right softie and so loving too. I guess he just came across as intimidating because of the barking.
They do bark a lot. Don't even think about getting a doberman if you like a quiet house. Every time someone walked past the house, you would hear jazz bark his head off! Saying that, you do get used to it though.
Dobermans are strong and I wouldn't let a young child take this kind of dog for a walk either. They are excellent guard dogs though and will certainly protect you from any harm. I always felt safe with Jazz.
Like with any other large dog, you have to be prepared to take the dog for at least 2 walks a day. I guess they are high maintenance in that sense. You have to have the time for a doberman, so would need to take them out in the morning before work and again after work.
If your looking for a dog that with watch your house for you and guard your family, this is the dog for you.
