Great Guard Dog and Family Dog

The Dobermans I have lived with have all been spetacular guard dogs, but also family dogs. They have been wonderful with children and would protect the kids with their life.

They are easy to groom and care for. They are also easily trained, usually being very smart and eager to please.

On the downside, they will go after any small animal, including a visitor's small dog. If the dog is well trained, it might stop doing that, but they are hunters by nature. It is important that a dog like this be adequately trained and training be kept up with so the dog doesn't walk all over you. Other than that, a wonderful family pet.
