There are too many great things to say about Sam to fit here.
First of all, we were told by what we thought were reliable people that Sam was a boy dog. When she arrived, we quickly discovered that just was not true. We kept her name, though. We said she was really Samantha, just Sam for short.
Sam watched over her children. I had three younger brothers and sisters. She also accompanied my brother to the woods each day to catch things she found interesting.
We had such a great dog, but did not take her to a veterinarian for vaccines. She became ill with distemper. She would not eat and we all cried thinking she would be lost.
My parents fed her with a turkey baster and forced her to eat until, by a miracle, recovered.
We are firm believers in vaccines for all the preventable diseases of dogs because no one wants to lose a pet if that can be avoided.
