My first pet - The rascally Dalmatian Rascal

My Dalmatian Rascal was the first pet I remember. She was a sweet loving dog with a great love of running and the outdoors. I was really attached to the dear thing, spending lots of time playing and rough-housing with her. She very much defined my childhood, being one of the few clear memories I have of this time. I remember the one major problem we had with her, aside from perhaps an overdeveloped sense of being protective, was her propensity for escaping given the opportunity. It didn’t happen often, but when it did we had to go searching throughout the neighborhood to bring her home, if she didn’t just come wandering back on her own. All in all, she was my first and favorite childhood friend, and was a wonderful dog. She was ultimately taken from us by a nasty case of heartworms, but I still remember that first and sweetest pet fondly.
