Unlike what most people believe, Pluto, my dalmatian, was not a violent dog. He was quite eager and playful, and that could make him somewhat unsafe for us children, due to his strenght and unableness to control it. He never hurt me, or anyone for that matter, eventhough he was never trained.
He grew at an incredible speed, and became noisier as he did, but that didn't represent a problem for us, since we were on the countryside. Also because of this, there were no problems when it came to potty time; he would always find somewhere to do it outside the house, mostly because he was rarely allowed into it.
As for feeding and grooming, we always kept it simple. He would eat about 4 kg. per month, feeding him twice a day and keeping water permanently. We rarely bathed him, for he would be a mess again in no time (because of where we lived). Good thing is, dispise the minimal grooming, he wouldn't get a lot of fleas, because of his short hair.
I had a great expirience with this dog, probably because he was pretty much kept outdoors; I'm not sure it would be the same indoors.
