My Dalmation Buddy Dog

We received Buddy from a friend who could not keep him because he was not very good with their small child. He would snap and bark whenever the child cried or was upset.
When he came to live with us, myself and my brothers were already teenagers. He was a very loyal dog, well-behaved, trained, and responsive. He loved to eat though and when food was left on the counter, would eat whatever it was. Thanksgiving dinner one year was ruined, when he stole the turkey off the counter. He was in time out for a quite awhile. He also broke into his food container and ate a whole bag of dog food. He was quite sick for the whole day but recovered.
He wasn't very hyper when we got him, which may be due to the fact he was a bit older. He loved going for walks and playing with a tennis ball.
He did go blind when he was about 10 years old, which was very difficult for him, but he lived for 2 more years after that. Making his way around the house with our help.
He was a good dog as I said, but perhaps not good for a family with small children because he did bite, when he was startled or bothered. My teenage brother startled him in the car once, and Buddy bit him, not hard enough to cause major damage, but enough to scare everyone.
