Daschunds are cute, curious dogs. They were originally bred for hunting rabbits because they could get into burrows on their short stubby legs. My best friend had a number of Dachsunds when we were growing up.
They are fantastic companion animals and good with kids. My friends parents always bought short haired dogs in brown or black and tan. In spite of their size they do resemble other German dog breeds like the Doberman and German Pinscher. The main difference is that when a Daschund gets cranky it's not usually a problem.
If there is a problem with the Dachsund it is a tendency to overeat. This can be a serious issue because the Daschunds long body is susceptible to spinal issues. Also an overweight Dachsund will rub the fur off its belly which is not an attractive look.
