Dachshunds are such sweethearts, and they will always plop right into your lap as soon as you sit down and lick and lick and lick any exposed skin.
Some of them are mellow, some high-strung, and this is one breed that doesn't come with a set temperament - each one varies - I've met "eternal puppies", mellow ones, snobs that won't let you touch them, needy ones that won't let you stop, and the list goes on! I've only ever encountered one very cantankerous old dachs-y and I'm pretty sure he'd been abused, so he had his reasons.
My suggestion would be to spend a lot of time deciding which puppy you'd like to buy if you go to a breeder, just to ensure their personality and energy levels suit you (& your family)!

If they are around children - or even if not - always be careful; because they are so long there is more of a risk that when dropped or jumping from a high place they could break their backs.
