When I see this breed on the street I think of a hot-dog but even though they look funny there is some serious dog behind the looks. The Dachshund is a breed who loves to stay near their owners, it is in their nature to be a furry company to them.
They are fairly easy to groom, they do not need a lot of exercising, they tend to adapt well into a small place, they are also pretty smart... The intelligence they have they use it to manipulate their owners!!!! In my experience I have seen Dachshunds who know exactly what their owners want and do the exact opposite , pretty much like saying: "Who´s the boss? NOT YOU pal!". So yeah, this breed is not very easy to train and even though they learn the tricks they also need to be in the mood to please you.
That being said, they get along very well with adults but not so much with kids since they are not really patient... If you have kids around the house I would recommend another breed, not only the dog will get overwhelmed with all the energy kids tend to have but also children will get bored since this breed has no problems walking away when they are not in the mood!!!
I highly recommend frecuent and constant training for the Dachshund.
