My adorable dachshund, Scout, had one of the best personalities I've ever seen in a pet. Even in old age, he was extremely playful and particularly loved playing fetch. Because of his size, his energy came in short bursts, so he also enjoyed sitting on the couch and watching TV with me. He was friendly with other dogs and extremely curious (couldn't let run freely, or he'd get in the road). He could tell when I needed comforting and always made me feel better.

On the downside, his health care costs were pretty high when he got older. He had a sore back from a previous injury, so we had to be careful when handling him.

I'd recommend this type of dog to anyone looking for a fun but low-maintenance companion who is full of personality.
