My close experience with Dachshunds is based on dogs that my mom has, a mother/daughter pair that she acquired from a breeder. I've also worked with Dachshunds.

These little dogs are cute and could snag anyone with their little puppy eyes, though I personally have a particular fondness to miniature black and tans. They come in a large variety of colors, and their sizes range from about 8-25 pounds... so there's one of these little guys for everyone.

This breed is full of energy, spirit, and mischief. They are avid diggers and chewers, and are particularly known to be barkers as well. Dachshunds have a tendency to bark at strangers and strange dogs, both at home and away. While they are usually good with all people, they can sometimes have issues with other dogs and should be supervised around children, especially those they do not know. They also are prone to back injuries, and paralysis from trauma or injury, which is costly and inconvenient to care for.

Dachshunds have a wonderful personality, especially when home with family. They have plenty of energy, but are content to sit in your lap as well.
