My mom breeds these lovable little guys so I have known many of them on a casual first name basis. I own one; Peru Macaroni. She is wonderful! In my experience these dogs are just all around great pets. They are small and neat. The short hair variety leave no hair anywhere! Just an occasional brushing and nail trim is all that is needed. They can be a little obstinate at first with training, but I think this is only because they are very smart. You can teach them anything and they will do it. They are very protective and can be trained to be more so. They are great with children and other animals.
The only down sides worth mentioning is that as they age they can tend to have back problems due to their long bodies. Also as they age, they can tend to become less patient with young children and other animals (maybe because their back hurts).
