I LOVE my dachshund but...

I've had 3 dachshunds throughout my life- my most recent Lucy Jane, is very very loving but only if she gets to know you. Though she was around a ton of people when she was a puppy she is still skiddish around new people- she runs and hides, if possible, behind me, or she snaps at them if they try to pet her. Sometimes she can adapt (like when she met my boyfriend), and be herself openly almost immediately- my grandmother's dachshund did the same thing when I was born, apparently guarding me like a child- they're very intuitive. Lucy follows me everywhere, wants to sleep on me if possible, and barks if the leaves blow outside. She's very neurotic- she does something with her food where she scoops it out with her nose piece by piece (but sometimes she just does it over the food bowls in the air ?), we call it "counting". She also licks EVERYTHING: people (her absolute favorite), ANY other animal, floors, blankets, phones, etc.
