The Dachshund

A few years ago, I had the extreme pleasure of fostering a dachshund. This was my first experience being full responsible for one, and to this day Meeka remains one of my favorite dogs.

Dachshunds are one of the most popular breeds in the United States - They are lovable, playful, and have very upbeat personalities. These are absolutely one of the best breeds you can get if you have a family! Keep in mind that because of these traits, they really, really need affection. This breed forms very close bonds with its owner and can become jealous and even depressed if its owner does not give it enough attention.

Bred to hunt badgers, these dogs are also very intelligent and energetic. You wouldn't imagine a dog so small being so powerful, but don't let their cuteness fool you!

Grooming is fairly easy - Regularly brush your dachshund and bathe when necessary. Because of their thin coats, please put clothing on them during the winter! They are not built for cold weather.

I can't say enough positive things about this breed. If you're looking for a best friend, this is the one I'd recommend above all others.
