Acquired: Breeder (professional)

I have worked with several Dachshunds and they all have similar traits. They can be very vocal and headstrong, but they are very lovable. I owned two dachshunds as a child and still have some in the family that I work with on occasion. What I have learned about this breed is that they are easily trained if given the proper discipline. Just like with other small dogs many people do not want to discipline them because they are little and cute, but like with big dogs they need their boundaries. If given the proper tools and training they are wonderful dogs. These are good dogs with children as they are not so delicate that they can be hurt. Still, they need to be watched as with any animal around children. The downside to this breed is that they are sight-hounds and they must be watched and guarded as they will run if given the chance. They were bred to be hunters of small animals and rodents and as a result they are avid diggers. They will try to escape and chase anything that catches their eye. All in all they are wonderful pets and will give great affection and loyalty to their owners.
