Claire is my baby. I'm not even a huge fan of small dogs but one look and it was love at first sight! She is a good dog but quite a personality and sometimes a handful. Dachshund's are very large guard dogs trapped in a very small body. She is protective of both our home and our family. Anyone daring to come within sight of our house is barked at relentlessly and she will charge strangers to make them back up. No biting or snapping, just bravely guarding! She is quite a character, loves to roll belly-up through warm clothes, chew rawhides bigger than her and play tug-of war! :) She's good with cats but took awhile to get comfortable. I wouldn't recommend interaction with small prey-like pets though - there was an unfortunate hamster incident we won't forget. I would recommend getting a Dachshund as long as you are willing to work with their natural quirks!
