Dachshunds are vocal, stubborn, playful, loyal and best of all, they have no idea they're small dogs. My ten-pound beauty (a long-haired miniature English cream) acts like she runs the show with people and dogs of every size. We've taken her to doggie day care since she was a pup and she loves to play with other dogs and particularly loves being chased by them. She needs a lot of exercise to burn off her energy, even as a four-year-old. We keep her hair trimmed short because of allergies, but when we do let it grow long, we brush her every few days so that her hair doesn't get matted. When there are no distractions, she is a lovable lap dog in the first order, happy to snuggle for hours. If you like a dog with a big personality and a pleasing weiner dog shape, then I highly recommend dachshunds.
