Odin is a pure-bred dachshund and not only is he beautiful, he is a wonderful addition to our family. He is a long hair breed however, so there is quite a bit of grooming involved for his fur and nails, however the more you allow him to dig,he manages his own nails. He is well mannered and only snaps if he truly feels threatened but I have never had a problem with him actually biting my little girl. He manages very well on his own and is independent. He was extremely easy to train and very loveable. He was playful more as a puppy but once adolescence set in, he became extremely mellow. They make wonderful dogs for elderly people as long as they are short-haired as my grandparents owned some and my parents also owned short hairs. They are great companions.
