Dachshunds are a wonderful pet for small places; apartments, mobile homes, and such are great if you need a canine companion. My 6 year old Dachshund, Stewie, is my constant companion. He's a bit finicky about his food, cannot be separated from me for more than a few minutes without crying, and goes nuts if I eat and don't share (which I refuse to do). Like most small dogs, he barks insanely if someone comes to the door, licks everything to death, and always tries to go after the larger dogs in the neighborhood. Yet, I wouldn't trade my little guy for anything.
The unfortunate part is that he has a seizure disorder. I have to keep him calm and help him when he does seize. It is heartbreaking when he has a seizure but his medication helps some. This disorder developed after he got into fight with one of my cats and received a neck injury. He is otherwise easy to maintain and loves his bath times.
