When I first got Willie he was a pup, and he already showed signs of being a good family dog. He's lap friendly, child friends, and protective of his areas. If he does not know you, he will simulate an attack. Full run, teeth bared, growl, and barking like he's 10 feet tall. He will stop short, unless swung at, then his attack becomes real. A "Halt Willie" heals him. This makes him a great alarm. However, he does tend to do this with passing cars, so there are plenty of false positives too.
He's short haired, and easy to groom. He stands still for baths, and is house broken.
I recommend this breed to anyone with small children, that want a TV companion, or just a laid back small dog with a big bite.
The Dachshund are known for their ability to tear flesh, and be very agile due to their size. They were used to herd pigs due to them being leg high to them. This makes them a great protector if needed. However, as a whole, they are very docile.
