Lizzie the Dachshund - Friendly, Lovable, but Sometimes Obnoxious

Dachshunds are great pets in general. I've only ever owned one, but have had the pleasure of playing with several over the years, and they are unsurprisingly adorable and playful, with plenty of personality and energy, considering their small size. Our Lizzie was always eager to be petted and spoiled with attention, to the point that she often ended up underfoot in less than ideal circumstances. I'm not sure how many times she nearly knocked my feet out from under me as she charged down the hallway(who knew such little legs could move so quickly?), and she would fly into my lap as soon as I sat down, which could get annoying from time to time, but if you need a dog that will always give you affection--and if you can handle a dog with an endless supply of energy--a Dachshund isn't a bad pick.

My main recommendation would be that you have your dog house trained, as Lizzie wasn't well-trained and almost seemed to enjoy peeing on our carpet, a behavior which quickly grew tiresome, as I'm sure any animal lover is aware.

A Dachschund is definitely high-maintenance in the emotional department, but will be a great companion for many years if you are willing to invest time into it.
