My doxie is a fantastic dog. I spent a lot of time socializing/training her and making sure that she was comfortable around other people/animals and being potentially touched on all parts of her body (ears, snout, tail, et cetera). Doxies have a reputation for being barkers and ill-tempered, but I've found that as long as I kept on her about reactive behviours she learned. She does bark when people come to the door or animals pass by out of doors, but never for very long and will quiet down if I tell her too. For a small dog she is very friendly and very attached, although not agressive she does tend to be more attracted to women than men and will take some coaxing to go to them.
Overall, my mini doxie has been a lovely addition to my life. The affection and loyalty she exhibits far outweigh her tendency to loudly announce any visitors. At 6-years-old she's had no serious health problems and I work hard to keep her trim and well-exercised which has kept her from the weight problems common to her breed and size.
I would highly recommend a doxie if you are looking for one, having had such great success with GiGi.
