Chiweenie: highly energetic, prettier than a Chihuahua

We loved our chiweenie Jojo.

Pros: very energetic so can keep up with an athletic owner, loving, curious, more attractive looking than a Chihuahua (imo), small so needed less food, cuddly, small so easier to groom, hybrid vigor (not as many health problems as dachshunds), intelligent and easy to train, good with kids, very long lived

Cons: small dog syndrome (would go after larger dogs), teeth need daily brushing (common with small dogs, not necessary with large ones), barks a lot, sheds, probably not safe with smaller pets (both breeds are hunters/ratters)

Jojo spent 17 years with us before she passed. Chihuahuas can be quite long lived, and Jojo definitely got that part of her heritage. This means chiweenies can make great pets for kids to grow up with. They will slow down significantly at the end of their lives and frequently develop arthritis or something else. Poor Jojo was getting cataracts and had asthma at the end of her life, but by then she was mainly keeping Mom and Dad company. Great dog experience.
