Shelties are really just miniature Collies, they are almost the same breed of dog except for their size and a few other minor things--Shelties shed worse than Collies, I have heard. It all depends on if you prefer big dogs or small ones. My dog, Princess, was part Collie and part Sheltie so she was right in the middle. They both bark a fair deal and have a lot of hair and shed, but they're incredibly intelligent. I've heard it told that Shelties have an almost human-like intellect and having owned one I can understand why it has been said. They are herd dogs so they also like to "herd" children and other animals. Usually they are very loyal, have good temperaments, and overall I think they are fantastic pets.
