As a little kid, watching Lassie on TV, I always wanted a collie just like the one on the show. My mom and dad finally agreed and we got a collie puppy. I have had many dogs during my life and the collie breed is probably one of the most intelligent dogs I have worked with.
When you look into their eyes, you can see their attentiveness and focus on you as their owner. This breed is great with kids, even very young ones. They are very easy to train and are very active.
The hardest part about owning a collie is the maintenance. With the long coat, brushing is almost a daily event. Without proper brushing, the hair easily becomes tangled and matted, especially behind the ears. Their coat is beautiful when thoroughly washed and brushed out.
The picture I have attached is not my dog as she died many years ago, but she looked just like this with a white mane and golden coat. A great dog to own!
