Collie, Anxious but Loyal

Andy came to my family in bad shape. He had been with an abusive family for the first year of his life, and it took him a long time before he was able to trust us. Gradually, he accepted our treats and our pets, and he blossomed into a loving, loyal pet. He always let us know when someone as at the door and made sure that person had no ill intent. He did an excellent job in the obedience training we enrolled him in. He was a bit nervous around certain people, perhaps because they reminded him of his previous owners, but he still managed to keep a positive outlook until the last months of his life, when his mind began to deteriorate along with his body.

He was extremely healthy for the majority of his life, only requiring routine vet trips once a year. He did require some additional grooming due to his coat, but we were able to turn brushing him into quiet bonding time. He was loyal to a fault and protective of us, though he only barked when necessary.

Andy was already a fantastic dog and I'm happy that he was a part of my life. I only wish that he hadn't had to suffer before he came to us.
