He was specially trained and used in the movie Marmaduke and thus, has the training to be a perfect family dog, but that's not just because of his training.
Collies as a rule of thumb have always been great for families. They are typically a one family dog, though they have a tendency to be friendly with anyone. They are loyal and great with small children though the size may be a little intimidating, they love herding things so if the child is active, you may not want to leave it alone with the dog. The collie won't mean to do any harm, but it will try to herd if it needs to be.
Collies are very easy to train and can very easily be trained to be service animals. They have a great temperament with both the elderly as well as children, but it takes patience and when I say patience I'm also referring to the upkeep. Yes, there is a lot of grooming involved, to insure that you're collie looks great and smells great too.
But in the end, it's worth it because you have a best friend who will save you from the burning building, (LOL)
Maybe not, but a collie will be with you until he's no longer able to, and that's a promise, so if you've got the time, a collies the right dog for you.
