I had a collie that was truly man's best friend. Growing up we lived near a creek and some of my best childhood memories are taking Sam down by the water, splashing around, playing fetch and just hanging around the neighborhood, with him always faithfully by my side.
He was very easy to train and learned all of the basic commands easily. The only small exception to this was that Sam was a barker! I recall that my parents tried pretty hard to teach him to bark less, but were not very successful. But barking is what dogs naturally do - so personally I don't think this was a big deal.
Sam was an amazing, loyal and affectionate dog. I still miss you buddy.
