Our Collie Lad

Lad was a collie that I had as a kid. My dad got him because he loved the old Lassie television shows. Lad tended to run the neighborhood. He was very affectionate with us, but he was aggressive to strangers. Once, he actually bit a woman as she and another woman were walking by our house. He also chased cars, especially the trash truck.

To solve this problem, we decided to have a chain link fence installed. As the final gate to his new fenced in yard was being installed, my friend down the street came running up to us to tell us that Lad had been hit and killed by the trash truck. It was heartbreaking for me. We all cried and cried.

If you are thinking about this breed, they are high energy and need to be supervised. A big fenced in yard is a plus for this breed. They also have thick coats which are high maintenance.
