Growing up, my family had a black Cocker Spaniel. We got her as a puppy and she was an incredibly loyal dog to us, although she wasn't fond of anyone that wasn't in our family. She was relaxed at home (as long as she didn't see another dog walking by through the window), but she was quite anxious when we went outside for walks. Shadow was NOT the kind of dog you could just bring into the pet store, as she was not fond of other dogs.
Her grooming was also quite high maintenance. She had to be brushed almost daily to keep her fur free from snarls. Furthermore, if she went outside in the snowy winters, her fur would clump up with little snowballs and we'd have to break them down to melt them. She also would get extremely excited upon greeting us when we arrived home, piddling on the floor each time.
I loved this dog, but I probably wouldn't own this breed again.
