Ginger was the first family dog we ever had. She was the only girl in a litter of purebred cocker spaniels and she was a runt – but she was the toughest little dog. We later found her a friend that we named Sugar but Sugar passed away, unfortunately. Ginger stayed with us through three houses. She liked to sleep under the porch. She hated the golden retriever we tried to bring in because she was jealous of the attention he got, but she loved the little black mixed puppy, Shannon, we brought in (who ended up staying with us), albeit in a stern, motherly way. Shannon loved her, though – and so did we. She was fun to take on walks around the neighborhood even if she was strong-willed and I loved brushing her ears (they were so long!!!)
