I grew up with a red cocker spaniel named Katy, and I would jump at the opportunity to get another one. Katy was a great family dog—easy to train, cuddly, and even a little bit of a guard dog when it came to strangers around my little sister and me. She was the perfect size for road trips, boat trips, and fitting into our bigger doll clothes. Katy could walk for long distances and always had a lot of energy to run off in the backyard. The only thing that was hard to teach Katy to do was to stop barking at unnecessary times. I would enthusiastically recommend cocker spaniels to anyone with a backyard, especially families with small kids.
