Training: I haven't learned care / training techniques

I have owned a Cocker Spaniel for over ten years. He was a loyal companion ever since he was a puppy and a great enrichment to our family. Training as a puppy was hard work but definitely worth it. He did not have any problems with staying home alone for several hours during a busy work week and was always alert, protecting the house and his family. On the weekends, he really enjoyed long walks in the woods. However, taking care of his long hair was quite time consuming and the frequency of cleaning the floors in the house increased. Also, he was quite stubborn and jealous at times (especially of our cat), especially when it came to feeding time. He did not like it when we fed the cat first. Nevertheless, I can recommend a Cocker Spaniel for any family that has enough time he deserves and enough patience, as is the case with any other dog, to train him properly.
