Our Boston Terrier was the first dog that my family owned. She came into our lives mainly due to my sister's fear of dogs and in the hope that a small dog like this would help her to learn to understand doggy communication. The Boston was the perfect dog for this; small, gently and so docile that she was more than happy to be dressed up in doll clothes and pushed around the streets in a pram. Being so small, the Boston isn't particularly fond of long walks and she also really felt the cold so needed to wear a coat during all but the summer months. Being flat muzzled, Bostons can have breathing problems and listening to them snuffling can be distressing. I would definitely recommend the breed to first time pet owners or to people who don't have the time, or inclination for long walks (ours was a bit of a couch potato). Bostons are adorable to look at, low maintenance and quite trainable so definitely worth considering if you are looking for a small breed.
