A cattle dog turned into a babysitter

When I was younger my dad brought home a year old male border collie dog. My dad's plan was to train him to work cattle. Once, dad realized that he neither had the patience nor did Gus have the motivation there was going to be a cattle dog made out of Gus. My sister and I decided that Gus would be our dog.
Every day my sister and I would make sure we got Gus out and would hook him to our red rider wagon to pull feed and hay for the other animals. Gus was a great companion and a perfect babysitter for my sisters and me.

I realize that not all border collies can be this way so it is important to socialize them while they are young. When my dad got Gus he was taking a big chance at a dog that would be ok with his daughters. Border Collies also have long hair which will need to be groomed and maintained to avoid skin issues.

Overall, Border Collies are a great breed that is very intelligent and loyal to their owners.
