Jessie was my border collie / Shetland sheep dog cross, who died nearly 13 years ago now. I didn't realise it had been quite that long until I began writing this! I still remember her around the house like it was yesterday though.
She was a lovely, friendly dog, who loved nothing more than long walks in the countryside. With this type of dog you will definitely need to have a decent size garden for them to roam around in and enough time to take them for walkies, otherwise they will get very restless! These types of dogs are much more suited to countryside living. Also if you throw a stick, be prepared to keep throwing it for the entirety of the walk! Jessie was almost obsessive over it. She would continually drop the stick at my feet and bark until I picked it up and threw it again.
She was a very vocal dog, which made her a good guard dog. People would just have to walk past the house and she would alert you to their presence. Her barking could give me headache though! She also had a beautiful fluffy coat, but this would often malt and as a black coloured dog, light coloured carpets was definitely not a match.
So as a friendly and loyal dog, this would be a great addition to an active owner/family with easy access to lots of open space.
