The Blue Tick Hound

The big soulful eyes, long silky ears, and deep resonating voice, the Blue Tick hound is much more than a raccoon hunter. Like most hounds, this breed has a charming and gentle personality, a loving and protective nature, and thrives in a family environment with children, as an only child, or as a member of a multiple dog family—which is why I have thirteen. They have a reputation of being dim witted—which is completely untrue. In fact, they are very intelligent, thoughtful, puzzle solvers (like, hmm, how do I open the refrigerator or that back gate?) with a stubborn streak. This dog can be a city dog with regular exercise but I have three acres that they explore and “hunt” on—this breed needs both physical and mental stimulation.
